Hats and Hooves Derby Affair a Huge Success! And a whole lot of fun.
The Kentucky Derby is the inspiration for our annual CIS fundraiser, but the big winners at our May event are the students served by Communities In Schools of Coweta County.
When the results are totaled, thousands has been raised each year, including funds raised with our silent auction.
“I am overjoyed and humbled by this outpouring of support from the whole community,” said Executive Director Gina Weathersby. “I never doubted the people of Coweta County would support our program, but this event continues to top our expectations. It is awesome, and I’m already planning how this funding can be used to support our CIS students and expand the program.”
The big event attracts a huge crowd to the McRitchie-Hollis Museum on Jackson Street in Newnan. All are attired in their Derby Day best. Guests enjoy food, drinks, a band and live coverage of the Kentucky Derby on big screen TVs.
The success of our efforts is showing. According to Denise Buchanan, our Coordinator, students identified as “at risk” early in the school year and supported by CIS are scheduled each year to graduate.
Congratulations to those students. And a huge “Thanks” to everyone who continues to support the CIS program each year and works to make our Hats and Hooves Derby Affair such a great success.
